"SO IT GOES" HOME LIBRARY & DESIGN

As a fairly new graduate student, I have just begun my journey on the path to becoming a librarian. I am currently enrolled in the MLIS program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I am hoping to use this site as a portfolio, as well as documentation of my progress through graduate school. Please feel free to explore my site to learn more about me, get a better look at the work I do, and see what I can do for you.

ABOUT ME

Bethany Meyer Wyrick

I grew up in Virginia, and moved to North Carolina in 2006. I attended Bandys High School in Catawba, NC. I split my undergrad years at Appalachian State University and Pfeiffer University. I received my BA in Communication Studies in 2013, and I am currently enrolled in the online MLIS program at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I work full time as an Administrative Assistant/Scheduler at Williams- Sonoma in Claremont, NC. I am a single mother to an amazing, insanely weird five-year-old named Annaleigh, and we live together happily in Taylorsville.

On the off chance that I have any spare time, I love to read and do projects around the house. Annaleigh and I like to draw, paint, and play outside in our tree house. We also enjoy visiting the Patrick Beaver Memorial Library in Hickory.

ARTWORK

I went through a dictionary page phase for a while, and these were a few of my favorites. I found a fantastic, old dictionary at a thrift store, and I used felt tip pens for the pictures. I started with book covers and quotes from my favorite novels, then sort of branched out from there.

HOME PROJECTS

FIREPLACE AND CUSTOM SHELVING

I bought this mantel for $60 on Craigslist, then added trim to match and make it look like a real fireplace. I also painted the inside black and bought a small space heater for actual warmth during the colder months. I eventually added shelving on the sides for a place to store some of my books. It was a challenge finding a stain to match the original wood of the mantel, but it was still a really fun project. The fireplace is probably my favorite of all the projects I have done  in my house.

ARTWORK DISPLAY BOARDS

I originally found this idea on Pinterest. I purchased cheap lumber from Lowes, and I used basic eyelets and wire for the hardware. Annaleigh loves to draw and paint, and I love to see her colorful pictures hanging up in my office.

HOUSE NUMBERS

Another Pinterest find: the board was just leftover lumber from previous projects, and the house numbers are from Lowes. I use the same stain on most of my wood projects to keep the color scheme uniform throughout my house.
